@cwebber Let's found the National REPL Association, to defend the right to own and use footguns interactively.

@cwebber Not necessarily in languages with dynamic binding. There you can have true freedom (to shoot yourself in the foot).

@loke Where I am the regional government has changed the reporting of who is hospitalized, trying to distinguish between those who came to hospital for covid and those who are there for other reasons, but happen to have covid. The hospitals are having none of it, and started their own reporting site to report all of those with covid in the hospital. Maybe there was some flip-flopping on what to report in .sg?

@clacke To be fair, these words sound awfully close to "demanding" in the common sense usage of the word:

"We will be following this issue very closely and insisting that Trump's Group give the Corresponding Source to all who use the site."

@liw Well, there seems to be a natural law that everything has to be re-implemented in both rust and golang, so the existence of hugo sortof forces your hand.

@Gemlog @clacke The idea of leaving a gun loaded with live ammunition on a movie set is appalling. The (admittedly small number of) sport shooters I know would not tolerate leaving a loaded weapon lying on a table /in a shooting range, facing downrange/. I was taught you always unload the weapon before it leaves your hands, and if possible open it so it is clear there is no round in the chamber.

@tomasino @romen @rysiek Pardon the drive-by reply, but how does this compare to the old-school "test for features, not versions, you dummy" mantra that e.g. autotools promoted decades ago?

@cwebber You can't take it back, theirtory is now a word. You better get your usage in quick, before it is appropriated by some weird political splinter group to mean something completely different 😜

@tindall @eriol @rysiek If you want a test case, start GPLing your copilot output, particularly if it coincidentally contains quotes from some GPL hating megacorp. It's not hard to find candidates for the latter.

Apropos diversity, a quote from Mathias's homepage.

"Universities routinely complain that Computer Science employs too few female faculty members. Now, have you ever searched for conservatives on campus? Well yes, not even Google can find them." Make of that what you will.

Hrm. I was considering switching to kitty as a terminal, but this answer gives me pause. I mean, everybody has Opinions, but the suggestion that users should not use terminal multiplexers does not seem too well thought out.

@loke according to #emacs ops yes. But I guess the Emacs developers get to decide where, if anywhere the "official" project channel is.
