You, to me: You poor misguided n00b. You unknowing child. You ignorantly cling to your instance, but I will show you the light, even kicking and screaming, I will guide you to enlightenment.
Me: Jondescension!

When I looked into installing mastodon, it was extremely resource intensive and required a bleeding-edge version of Rust, so I went with GnuSocial instead. That supports ostatus, but not ActivityPub, so it federates with fewer and fewer hosts.
I could install pleroma, which has some issues, but is a lightweight design I could actually support, but many mastodon users block all those instances anyway.
tl;dr Masto is hard to install and expensive to run. Partisans hate the alternatives.

Ok, so I have a really simple database - just a step up from a small collection of spreadsheets. And I'd like to allow my collaborator to edit them online as if it were a shared google sheet, so that our changes don't get out of sync, but I can still do sgl queries and so forth.
I'm sure this must already exist....

Black people are dying of covid at higher rates because of racism. Stop thinking of this as "politics" and think of it is a longer-running, also-urgent public health emergency that is inter-connected with covid.
In NYC, black people are vastly over represented in prisosn which took no covid precautions. The police did not pause their abuse but used the quarantine as an excuse for additional brutalisation. Many were also key workers.

This is some serious victim-blaming.
People did try to have distanced, peaceful outdoor protests and were set upon by the police who forced crowding.
Police violence against black people, especially men and boys is also a public health emergency. 1 in 1000 will die of it. Others face serious health consequences in terms of injury and prolonged stress.
Don't blame people for rebelling against people who murder them.

The US had already lifted most restrictions and is sending workers into massively unsafe work environments. The protests are at least outdoors and may have lasting positive impact in terms of justice and health, as these two things can't actually be separated.
I'm also concerned about covid implications, but this is 100% on the heads of the cops. Around 64% of Americans support the protests so worries about the election sound like concern trolling.

I am also concerned about a second wave - or indeed, still the first wave speeding up. The best way to deal with this, imo, is to facilitate safe protests and make fast, meaningful concessions. Give people victory and they won't need to be out doing this.

Because everything in the US is unequal, many people protesting did not have the luxury of a quarantine in the first place. It feels like you're asking them to accept their mistreatment quietly for the sake of others and it's really not cool.

I feel like this was because so many people in the arts and cultural industries died of AIDS and were still dying then. George Bush was president. Things had been terrible for years and we were being told history was over and it would be like this forever.

Ok, these covid tracing apps seem like a really good idea in theory, but in practice, I absolutely do not want to give google, apple or any government a log of everybody I've met with or stood next to.
I know it could save lives, but the potential of abuse is so high and none of those groups have any credibility whatsoever.

Does using OBS to stream to youtube have the same kind of #compression as connecting to #jitsi meet and streaming from there?
Is there some sort of (#linux) audio plugin that can give me the same #distortion?)
